Nestled in the heart of Utah’s Canyon Country, Moab is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers. On our recent trip, we had the pleasure of staying at Under Canvas Moab, a luxury glamping site that offers a unique blend of comfort and immersion in nature. Located just seven miles north of Moab and near the breathtaking Canyonlands and Arches National Parks, Under Canvas Moab served as our perfect basecamp for exploring this stunning region.
Under Canvas Moab isn’t your average camping experience. Imagine waking up in a spacious, safari-inspired tent complete with a plush king-size bed, luxurious linens, an en suite bathroom with organic bath products, and a wood-burning stove to keep you warm on chilly nights. The site’s commitment to providing a comfortable stay is evident in every detail, from the complimentary morning yoga sessions and live music to the nightly s’mores around the campfire.
We arrived at Under Canvas Moab greeted by friendly staff who helped us settle into our tent. Our first night brought a thunderstorm, but the cozy fire inside our tent turned the experience into a memorable adventure. Listening to the rain pattering on the canvas while playing Scrabble was a delightful way to unwind.

We booked a stand-up paddleboard tour down the Colorado River, which flows right through Moab. The tour was a thrilling mix of calm paddling and navigating through small rapids, all while surrounded by the stunning canyon landscape. As temperatures soared near 100 degrees, the cool water was a welcome relief, and we were even treated to sightings of mountain goats along the riverbank.
A trip to Moab isn’t complete without visiting Arches National Park. We booked our time slot in advance, which is crucial due to the park's popularity. You can book your reservation at the official Arches National Park site by following this link. Even with a reservation, the wait was around 45 minutes, but the stunning views were well worth it.
Our first hike was to Delicate Arch, one of the park’s most iconic formations. This challenging hike takes about 2-3 hours round trip and is approximately three miles long. The trail is strenuous, with little shade, so be sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen. The breathtaking view of Delicate Arch at the end of the trail is worth every step, though the area can be crowded with fellow hikers.
The next day, we ventured to Canyonlands National Park to hike the Mesa Arch trail. This hike is much easier than Delicate Arch and less crowded, offering a serene experience with beautiful desert flora lining the path. Mesa Arch is a prime spot for sunrise photography, capturing the morning light as it illuminates the arch and the landscape beyond.
For some afternoon adventure, I took my mountain bike to the nearby Bar M Trails, just a few miles from Under Canvas Moab. These trails offer 31 miles of beginner to intermediate routes with manageable elevation changes and technical challenges, including Moab's famous slickrock obstacles.
Our last night at Under Canvas was magical. We attended a stargazing workshop hosted by a local astrologist. The clear, dark skies of Moab, certified by the International Dark Sky Association, provided a stunning backdrop as we learned about star formations and mythology. Laying on yoga mats and gazing up at the infinite sky was the perfect way to end our adventure.
